Advanced present simple and continuous // Grammar (C1 grammar) - British Council | LearnEnglish

My opinion and review of studying grammar in this site (British Council | LearnEnglish):

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Honestly, it's pretty good. There's more than a dozen lesson you can take for each level of these grammar practices that will teach you about certain things regarding the proper use of grammar. I recommend this site if you want to study a bit of English.

Word Forms and Simple Present Tense (Week - 3) // Language Learning (Learn English: Beginning Grammar Specialization) - Coursera

What I've learned on week 3 of this course and my opinion regarding coursera for language learning:

---------------------------------------------------------

For this week, I learned about simple present as well as the ability to form the negative for the BE verb and for all other verbs (it has different rules compared to other verbs). Lastly, I learned how to use “There is” and “There are” to describe something in place.

NOTE: MY OPINION ABOUT COURSERA WILL BE THE SAME FOR ALL WEEK (1-3) AS I SEE NO POINT IN MAKING A DIFFERENT OPINION OTHER THAN THIS ONE.

As for my opinion regarding coursera and how effective it is for language learning -- I think it is a very good website for it. I admit, even though the course I chose is beginner level, I actually learned a little bit of grammar rules I forgot from it (it's always good to look back so you don't forget about something), so this was a pleasent experience of learning for me. Though there's one drawback from coursera - paid subscription.

Word Forms and Simple Present Tense (Week - 2) // Language Learning (Learn English: Beginning Grammar Specialization) - Coursera

What I've learned on week 2 of this course and my opinion regarding coursera for language learning:

---------------------------------------------------------

So far what I've learned on week 2 is how to form verbs in simple present, the usage of auxiliary verb, and possessive form of words. I learned about the different changes in spelling when I put aposthrope "s" at the end of a verb in simple present. I learned about some of the auxiliary verb as well (do, does, have, has, go, goes) and how to use them correctly within a sentence. And lastly, I learned about the usage of possessive adjectives - which is to indicate possession of ownership of an object (e.g. my car, your bike, their house).

NOTE: MY OPINION ABOUT COURSERA WILL BE THE SAME FOR ALL WEEK (1-3) AS I SEE NO POINT IN MAKING A DIFFERENT OPINION OTHER THAN THIS ONE.

Word Forms and Simple Present Tense (Week - 1) // Language Learning (Learn English: Beginning Grammar Specialization) - Coursera

What I've learned on week 1 of this course and my opinion regarding coursera for language learning:

---------------------------------------------------------

In the first week of this course I learned about different kinds of words like nouns, verbs, and adjectives. I also learned about different kinds of nouns as well as the topic of plural and singular nouns; how to make spelling changes, and when to use the articles “a” and “an.” And lastly, I learned about the usage of verbs in the simple present.

Duolingo - Unit 1 (English courses for Indonesian speakers)

Opinion on Duolingo (or at least unit 1 - English courses for Indonesian speakers)

--------------------------

It's probably because it's only unit 1 so the questions are easier but honestly it's more tedious than challenging; same questions about the same thing (apple, bread, man, woman, etc...) but different structure of questioning. There's 7 level (4 stages per level): 7x4 = 28 stages. Completing these levels feels monotonous and dull. Not to mention Duolingo's system which is if you run out of "hearts," you'll have to wait 4 hours to gain back just 1 heart point in order to continue the course which is annoying imo.

A BEAR-Y SCARY CAMPING TRIP // Listening Activities (Life Stories) - Randall's ESL Cyber Listening Lab

Discussion Questions

-----------------------------------------------------------

Easy (Recall and Comprehend):

-----------------------------------------------------------

1. What is the story about?

-The story is about camping.

2. Where did the friends go camping?

-Utah Mountains.

3. What did the friends hear while they were roasting marshmallows?

-Rustling in the bushes.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Intermediate (Analyze and Interpret):

-They quickly scrambled to their tents to play it safe.

2. What happened when the friends stumbled upon the grizzly bear?

-They ran as fast as they could.

3. What did Lisa suggest they do when they were trapped by the bear?

-She remembered the waterfall they had seen earlier and suggested the wacky idea of jumping off the cliff and into the pool below.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Advanced (Analyze and Interpret):

-----------------------------------------------------------

1. How can we balance our desire to explore the wilderness and experience nature with the need to protect and respect the habitats of wild animals?

-Just stop throwing your trash in their home. Have some dignity and don’t litter. Also leave the animals living in their habitats alone. You’re there just to experience nature and wilderness, not screw up the place they live in.

2. The characters in this story faced dangerous situations but ultimately found humor in their experience. How can humor and positivity help us cope with difficult situations?

-Sometimes in a life and death situation, humor is the only valuable thing one can have in order to cope with the fact that they are probably about to die. Humor can make those in dire situations alleviate their anxiety at their apparent mortality.

3. In what ways can the lessons learned from this camping trip be applied to other areas of life, such as in the workplace or personal relationships?

-Take risks if you can. It could be rewarding.

4. How does our exposure to nature and the outdoors affect our mental and emotional well-being?

-It affects us in a good way. When you’re stressed from working your job, sometimes all you need is a little bit of vacation of travelling outdoors and breathing the fresh air to remind us that life is worth living.

5. What role do cultural attitudes and values play in shaping our relationship with nature, and how can we promote more sustainable and respectful attitudes towards the environment?

-Our attitudes and cultural values such as our belief systems, including religious and spiritual alike, plays a role in our understanding of the environment. Some belief systems may emphasize total control over nature, while others may view nature as sacred and worth protecting. Understanding these worldviews can help bridge gaps and promote good attitude towards nature.
